July Teacher of the Month: Tracy

At Twisted Grit, we’re incredibly proud of our talented and passionate instructors who help create a nurturing and transformative environment for all. This month, we’re kicking off our Teacher of the Month series by shining a spotlight on a Twisted Team member who really exemplifies what it means to be kind and compassionate. Tracy Frank has been with Twisted Grit Yoga since the beginning, and we’re delighted to highlight her dedication to yoga, essential oils, and holistic wellness.

Embracing Authenticity and Growth

Tracy embodies the spirit of Twisted Grit Yoga. “At Twisted Grit Yoga, you are encouraged to come as you are and be who you are. In fact, I have even become more of who I was meant to be by being here since the opening of TGY,” she shares. Tracy’s journey with us is a testament to the power of authenticity and growth.

A Journey from Pain to Passion

Tracy’s introduction to yoga dates back to 1998 when she was a high school math teacher in San Francisco, CA. Following an accident that resulted in severe neck pain, yoga became her sanctuary. “Yoga was the only thing that gave me relief. I also fell in love with the rest that my nervous system got every time I stepped on my mat to practice. That was one of the first times in my life where I felt a healthy release of stress.” This initial experience ignited a lifelong passion for yoga, which she pursued through various phases of her life.

Balancing Life and Practice

While Tracy’s yoga practice became sporadic due to the demands of motherhood and career, her love for yoga never waned. “I would practice off and on for the next two decades, sometimes practicing weekly and sometimes going months without practicing. I missed it, and it was always on my goals list, but life kept me away, sadly.” Her commitment to yoga resurfaced stronger than ever in 2023, coinciding with the opening of Twisted Grit Yoga. “I was working on my yoga teacher training in yin yoga, my job in the world of education suddenly ended, and Amy asked me to come guide the essential oils component of TGY.”

Holistic Wellness Advocate

Tracy’s classes at Twisted Grit Yoga are unique and holistic, often incorporating essential oils. “You should know that I will likely bring and share essential oils to any class I teach, but please know you can always pass,” she explains. As a certified Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT) provider, Tracy offers techniques that support the release of negative patterns in the brain connected to memories, emotions, and thought patterns. “I love sharing this technique and supporting those at TGY who are ready to release the old and welcome in new ways of thinking.”

Specialized in Deep Relaxation

Tracy specializes in yin yoga, restorative yoga, and yoga nidra—practices that promote deep relaxation and stress relief. “I bring in essential oils as an optional support for the body and mind into almost every class I teach. The classes that can help you move from that fight or flight stress mode that we all experience to the rest and release mode of your nervous system.” Her personal journey of overcoming the fight-or-flight response fuels her passion for helping others achieve balance.

Continual Learning and Growth

Currently, Tracy is expanding her expertise by becoming certified as an Integrative Somatic Practitioner. “I am excited to bring all I am learning into TGY as well,” she shares. This continual learning reflects her commitment to providing the best support and guidance to her students.

Words of Wisdom

When asked what advice she would give to someone considering a class at Twisted Grit Yoga, Tracy enthusiastically responded, “In the words of Nike, Just Do It! I suggest people pick a class that sounds good to them and give it a try. Also, I think the motivation membership is highly underrated. It gives you a chance to do 4 classes a month and helps you get started with yoga. Because the 4 classes expire at the end of the month, it gives you motivation to get in and use them.”

Beyond Yoga

Outside of her yoga practice, Tracy enjoys hiking, spending time outdoors, being with friends and family, and traveling. These activities reflect her love for nature and connection, qualities she brings into her teaching.

Tracy’s dedication, warmth, and holistic approach make her an invaluable member of the Twisted Grit Yoga family. We are grateful for her contributions and look forward to the continued growth and inspiration she brings to our community. Thank you, Tracy, for being an integral part of Twisted Grit Yoga!
